A teaching in the Jardin

Ringu Tulku was here for two days over the weekend to give teachings on The Heart Sutra, which is just about my favourite thing. These teachings were just what I needed.

There were too many folk about to send any emails to agents, but I will send a couple today and I'm going to compose a letter to send to the agency in New York  headed by a man who is on the board of Shambala, the Buddhist publishers. The Buddha, The Dakini, and The Dirty Old Man is definitely not suitable for Shambala, but Mr Clark will, at least, have heard of the Tibetan teachers mentioned in the text. If I was playing American football, this would be a Hail Mary, the last throw of the dice. I'll soon have spent more time sending emails than I did writing the book, and I can just forget about it now, and get on with writing the sequel.

    2. Some teachings I've listened to down at the Samye Ling were less than satisfactory, but Ringu Tulku kept on the subject and it was great listening to him go through it line by line. The part I enjoyed most was when he got to the bit that says, There are no eyes, no nose, etc. He said of course there are eyes ... and went onto to say something about conceptualisation, about conceptualising realities like eyes, I think. I wish I'd seen this earlier and I'd be surer. Anyway, when I was in the Zen Mountain Monastery ten years ago, they said they were going to do some liturgy every day, and my heart sank. I thought, I hate fucking liturgy, but then they said it was doing a daily reading of the Heart Sutra. I love the Heart Sutra. It's like the Buddha's pal goes quantum mechanical. Yes, Ringu Tulku explained about the different kinds of sutra and how this one was authentic though it wasn't stated by the Buddha himself. The wee lama has taken me (and others) to Vulture's Peak where it happened twice. I owe that woman so much!

    1. Hi Michelle, I wasn't getting notifications that anyone had commented, so ... I just found out and have sent you a very apologetic email. Hope the address still works. I think I've taken the moderation thing off now, and told my so-called friend not to spew his crap over this blog. We'll see.
